Nowadays, we don't use wooden bowls in the same extent that we did historically. New materials like plastic, mass-produced glass or ceramic bowls have almost pushed the wooden bowl out of our homes. Maintaining them is not hard but does require you to every now and then give them a little love, depending on how much you use them. First off, all bowls are treated with oils and waxes that are suitable and approved for food contact.
When used lightly, for salads that contain oily dressings, they may not need a lot of further care. But whenever it starts loosing its surface, treat the bowl to some oil. You can use any oil you choose as long as it's a food-safe alternative but my recommendation is a mineral oil like paraffin oil that you can purchase in most stores. and if you want to give it a tougher surface I recommend rubbing it with beeswax.
Make sure you don't leave liquids sitting in a bowl or allow the bowl to be soaked, do not put it in the dishwasher.
Don't leave food sitting in a wooden bowl or let fruits decay on its surface. If you want to use a bowl as a fruit bowl I recommend putting a protective barrier at the bottom.
Always keep it stored in room temperature and do not put it in the fridge, outside (over a period of time) or in an oven or microwave.
The wood used in our bowls come from within a 80 kilometer radius. Trees that have either been taken down due to sickness or storms. We take great pride in turning wood that hasen't been a part of the industrial lumber industry. And thus through choosing sustainable timber, we do not contribute to deforestation in any way.
By utilizing wood that otherwise would get burned as firewood we make sure the carbon locked in the wood stays locked inte the wood. Wood chips and shavings from the shop gets composted and turned in to soil and no toxic chemicals get emitted in our production.
Our mission is to make wooden bowls that replace plastic bowls for a more sustainable living with a connection to nature.
